In December 2025, Basel's traffic data revealed a total of 16,968,072 vehicles counted across various modes of transportation. The city utilized 48 counting stations for motorized traffic, 27 for bicycles, and 25 for pedestrians. These stations effectively captured the flow of traffic throughout the city, providing valuable insights into the movement patterns of its residents and visitors.

Motorized traffic is categorized into different street types, with stations strategically placed to monitor these areas. The station with the highest motorized traffic for the month was A3-A35, Grenze CH-F, recording 1,022,326 vehicles. Figure 1 presents a map of all stations active in December 2025, while Figure 2 illustrates the average weekday traffic at the Heuwage station, highlighting commuter flows. Detailed results for all active motorized traffic counting stations are available in Table 1 and Table 2, which also compare the data with the average monthly values over the past year and the same month in the previous year.

For pedestrians and bicycles, Basel employed 25 and 27 counting stations, respectively. The pedestrian station at Gerbergasse, a bustling shopping street, recorded the highest traffic, as depicted in Figure 3. This figure shows a notable increase in pedestrian traffic on weekends from noon to 4 pm compared to weekdays. Similarly, Figure 4 highlights the bicycle traffic on Wettsteinbrücke, where weekday lines demonstrate the impact of bike commuters.

Comparing December 2025 to the same month in the previous year, there was a 4.49% increase in bicycle traffic, a 1.18% rise in motorized traffic, and a 3.29% increase in pedestrian traffic. These figures are based on stations active in both years. The data also shows no significant difference from the average of the last 12 months for any traffic category. As expected, bicycle traffic tends to be lower in winter months, while higher numbers are typical in summer, spring, and fall.
