Karl Jaspers, a German-Swiss psychiatrist and philosopher, was born on February 23, 1883. His work greatly influenced modern theology and psychiatry, and after fleeing Nazi persecution, he moved to Basel in 1948, where he continued to develop his philosophical ideas on existentialism and mental illness until his death.
