Röschenz is a municipality in the Bezirk Laufen, situated at an altitude of 452 meters above sea level and covering a total surface area of 1,007 hectares. This places it as the 10th largest municipality by surface area in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. The history of Röschenz is long and rich, with evidence of human habitation dating back to between 40,000 and 4,000 BC. The area was later settled by Celtic tribes before coming under Roman rule. The first documented mention of the village dates to 1290, and it changed hands several times, eventually becoming part of the Bishopric of Basel. The community endured significant hardships, including the Peasants' Wars, the Thirty Years' War, and a famine in the 1870s that led to emigration. As of 2024, Röschenz has a population of 1,953 residents, ranking it 31st in the canton. The population is composed of 88.6% Swiss citizens and 11.4% foreign nationals. The age distribution shows a working-age population (18-65) of 1,217 people, 350 children and young people (0-17), and 386 older adults (over 65). The land use in Röschenz is predominantly natural, with forests covering 60.4% of its total surface. Agricultural land accounts for 32.1%, while settlement area makes up 7.4%. A minimal 0.1% of the land is classified as unproductive.

The energy consumption profile for 2022 shows heating oil as the primary energy carrier at 9,102 MWh, followed by electricity at 5,532 MWh and environmental heat at 4,348 MWh. Renewable sources like wood, photovoltaics, and solar thermal contribute smaller amounts. Electricity consumption per capita is 2.9 MWh, ranking Röschenz 64th in the canton. This middle-of-the-road ranking suggests a balanced mix of residential and commercial activity without extreme industrial consumption that would place it in the top or bottom ten.

The vehicle stock in Röschenz, as of 2026, consists of 1,206 passenger cars and delivery vans. Of these, 1,050 are powered by combustion engines (petrol or diesel), and 156 are electric vehicles, resulting in an electric vehicle share of 12.9%. The full breakdown is shown in Table 3.

Waste recycling data from 2024 shows varied performance across categories. The municipality excels in recycling paper and cardboard, with 63 kg collected per capita, ranking 6th in the canton. It also leads in recycling tinplate and aluminum, ranking 1st with 3 kg per capita. Glass recycling is strong with a rank of 15. However, recycling rates for green waste and household refuse are lower, with ranks of 83 and 75, respectively.
