Diepflingen is a municipality in the Bezirk Sissach of the canton of Basel-Landschaft. It is situated at an altitude of 410 meters above sea level and covers a total surface area of 144 hectares. Table 2 summarizes the key features of the municipality, and figure 1 shows its location on the map.

The history of Diepflingen is marked by a brief but notable episode of independence. In 1833, during the political conflict between Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft, the village initially remained loyal to Basel and faced attacks. To escape this threat, it declared itself a neutral republic for nine days, a status that ended due to pressure from the Swiss Confederation. The village was first mentioned in 1251, has undergone various name changes, and its history includes the establishment of a customs post in 1363 and a fire that destroyed part of the village in 1671. As of 2025, Diepflingen has a population of 859. The population consists of 431 men and 428 women.
