Itingen is a municipality in the Bezirk Sissach of the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Situated at an altitude of 365 meters above sea level, it covers a total area of 313 hectares. Table 2 summarizes the key features of the municipality, and figure 1 shows Itingen on the map.

The history of Itingen is that of a T-shaped village featuring residential and agricultural buildings from the 16th to 19th centuries that are closely aligned. Its medieval core was added to the inventory of protected localities in Switzerland in 1986. Itingen should not be confused with Ittingen in the Thurgau canton or Ittigen in the Bern canton. In 2025, Itingen had a population of 2,485 people. Of these, 22.19 percent were foreign nationals, with Swiss citizens making up the majority. The population is distributed with 467 children and young people aged 0-17, 1,561 adults of working age between 18 and 65, and 457 older adults over 65. The gender ratio is nearly balanced, with 1,251 men and 1,234 women. In terms of total population, Itingen ranks 27th among the 86 municipalities in the canton. The land use in Itingen is characterized by a significant forest cover. Of its 313-hectare total surface, 24.8 percent is settlement area, 28.6 percent is agricultural land, and 46.3 percent is forest, with the remaining 0.3 percent being unproductive surface.

In 2022, Itingen's energy consumption was dominated by electricity and heating oil. The total consumption was 12,117.12 MWh for electricity, 11,613.44 MWh for heating oil, 4,979.98 MWh for wood, 4,015.35 MWh for ambient heat, 1,615.14 MWh from photovoltaics, 179.23 MWh from thermal solar energy, and 51.53 MWh from natural gas. Electricity consumption per capita was 5.2 MWh, ranking Itingen 16th in the canton, which places it comfortably in the middle and not in the top or bottom ten. This moderate per capita consumption suggests a balanced mix of residential and commercial activity without a dominant, electricity-intensive industry.

The vehicle stock in Itingen as of 2026 consisted of 1,498 passenger cars and delivery vans. Of these, 1,212 vehicles ran on petrol, diesel, or other combustion engines, while 286 were electric vehicles, representing an electric vehicle share of 19.1 percent. This data is presented in table 3.
